You could do a lot worse than to take a few moments to rest on the bench up by Jill's Pond on Landport Bottom and watch the swallows dipping in and out the water. If you fancy helping out with some (very minimal) pond edge maintenance to stop invasive plants spreading out , along with some butterfly and plant spotting, then drop into our volunteer session up there this Saturday morning at 10am. "Free small car parking area, take care when unloading dogs as it's next to a fairly fast road. Gate access to the nature reserve. Various paths are to be explored, leading up through the old chalk pits, a now hobbit like landscape. Pretty intense climb up to the top, but the views are outstanding. Dogs need to be under close control as there can be grazing animals."

mark Prysor-Jones

"Well worth the short walk up from Lewes centre (about 30 mins) for the golden hour sunset views of the North and South Downs. Easy for kids too if they're moaners like mine."
