"A really informative small museum run by friendly volunteers, giving a good overview from the origins of purbeck stone, quarries and excellent examples of its use in famous locations around the country.
The introductory video is well worth a watch as is the other displays of bronze age axe heads, role of radar during ww2 and further historical interests linked to the area.
We spent well over an hour on a rainy morning and highly recommend as a stop en route to Swanage or Dorchester.
Free but consider a donation to continue the upkeep of this special museum.
Easy to reach by bus"

"A lovely small museum located just off the main road through the village.
It tells you the story of the famous stone that has been mined & used throughout the area & beyond.
A few extra bits about the area and people during WW2 & other stories.
Volunteers are helpful & enthusiastic.
I thoroughly recommend a visit, itβs free to enter but please leave a donation."

"This is a very basic two room, free to enter, volunteer run, community museum which will take up an hour or two of your time. The smaller room changes themes with the times (D-day anniversary as of this post) and the larger room deals with the main topic - stone quarrying and masonry work. Going here will answer a lot of questions regarding stone and it's uses (the local volunteer really added to the experience with their knowledge). As a side note the 11th century church next door is also worth visiting and shows off the local Purbeck marble in the columns. And the bee orchids outside. But that's a different story."
