This is one of the most surviving examples of an early Tudor gatehouse. 🤩 Welcome to Layer Marney Tower! Layer Marney was begun early in the 16th century by Henry, 1st Lord Marney (c. 1447 – 24 May 1523). He was an aspiring and well-respected courtier, a favourite of Henry VIII and captain of his guard. Commissioned in the early 1520s by Henry, 1st Lord Marney, a trusted courtier of Henry VIII, this architectural gem was intended as a grand statement of wealth and influence. Although construction ceased following the deaths of Lord Marney and his son, the tower remains the tallest Tudor gat...

"Lovely house. Castle , you must visit the church in the grounds as well. We visited when there was a vintage fair on were there was around 20 stalls and live singing.
We were there approx 2 - 3 hours.
Without the fair i recon you could spend 1.5 hours in total so not recommended for a day out , but well worth a look if your out that way and have other places to visit."
