"The oldest house in Ayr, built around 1513 for a rich merchant, James Tait.
Later bought by Matthew Campbell of Loudoun. He hosted Mary Queen of Scots as a guest for a couple of nights in 1563.
The lower rooms have vaulted ceilings and kitchen and toilets and a winding stair up to the big reception room with its grand fireplace.
There are more winding stairs and 2 more large rooms on the top floor."
