Friend is visiting Portsmouth for the first time
My friend is due to come from London today and she will be seeing Portsmouth for the first time. Even though I live here for 3 years already, I have been scratching my head since trying to think of what worthy places I can bring her to. I will appreciate any recommendation…
American Visiting - What Should I See/Do?
Hello, good people of Portsmouth. There's a good chance I'll be visiting for a few days next month. What are some things I should make sure to see or do? Should I bother making a trip to London while I'm there? Thanks for your help and advice!

⚓ Watch Ships Go By

15 hours in Portsmouth
I’ve just arrived in Portsmouth for a meeting tomorrow. I want to wander around the historic dockyard, can I do this for free and is it open anytime? (bearing in mind it’s currently 16:45). I don’t want to go onboard HMS Victory but seeing it would be cool. Thanks!

It's noted as a user-friendly, accessible, and entertaining walk, with ample amenities and nearby dining options. Some sections are still under development, but the finished parts are highly enjoyable.
"Still only half completed this sea defence cum public walkway is user friendly and entertaining. It links all the seafront attractions from King Henry the eight's castle to the Round tower and eventually along to Eastney. There is parking along its whole length though only free time limited parking in the Eastern end. Toilets are to be found along its length. The finished sections are wheel chair friendly and you are high enough up to see over the granite blocks and enjoy the shipping movements or waves as they approach the shore. Children can run freely and are safe from the seaward side. Take your time to stroll here and enjoy the D Day Museum en route public gardens and picnic areas abound.
During the summer there is the Victorious Festival in August along with Kite festivals and circuses, all making use of the very extensive Southsea Common. Plenty of stopping points for an ice cream, lunch or dinner.
Close to the bustling Southsea shopping precinct with plenty of restaurants for all wallets and a range of shops from Waitrose to Grape Tree for snacks or topping up a picnic."
