Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Museum of Edinburgh to be a charming and worthwhile stop on the Royal Mile, particularly for its focused collection on the city's history and its unique setting within 16th-century buildings. The free admission is a significant draw, and the silver collection is frequently highlighted as a standout exhibit. However, some visitors have noted an old, persistent scent within the building, which detracts from the experience for them.

"The Museum of Edinburgh may be old, but it’s absolutely worth a visit. Tucked away on the Royal Mile, it has a charming, historic feel and is full of interesting artifacts that tell the story of the city. There’s a lot to see, from everyday objects to important historical pieces, but the highlight for me was definitely the silver collection.

One of the staff members was kind enough to explain how they keep the silver items looking so bright and polished. They told me that the silver shines because it’s carefully cleaned and kept in glass display cases to protect it from dust. Apparently, once it’s cleaned, it can stay that way for several years as long as it’s well-sealed, and I also learned that the collection is very valuable! It’s those little behind-the-scenes stories that make the visit even more special. Definitely a hidden gem for anyone interested in Edinburgh’s rich history!!"

"It's good to stop by before you go to Holyrood Palace. As an Edinburgh museum, there were many things that illustrated Edinburgh's history. I didn't know when I entered, but the museum was surprisingly large, so there were many things to see. If you like to see various collections, I recommend it."

"Even free admission couldn’t make me give that place more than 2 stars. 🙄 The place itself is very boring after the National Museum but that’s not its biggest sin. What is? A centuries old urine stench throughout all the floors 🤮🤮🤮
We’ll probably it creates a medieval atmosphere but I didn’t enjoy it at all 😬🤦‍♀️"
