What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Ogston Reservoir is appreciated for its scenic beauty and excellent birdwatching opportunities, especially during migration. However, visitors should be aware that direct waterfront access is restricted to club members, and on-site facilities are limited. The walking paths offer pleasant views, making it a tranquil spot for nature lovers.
"If you’re a member of the fishing, bird watcher or sailing club you’re in heaven. If like us, you want to go for a walk around ‘think again’. We was told by a Bird Watcher member that there is no access to the water front unless you’re a fishing member.
Luckily he did however, point out a walk along the paths that overlooks the reservoir. (If he didn’t we would have returned home)
Although disappointed we did this walk with our dogs and to be fair it’s not too bad and does get scenic.
It takes about 2 hours to walk and just short of 4 miles.
I’ve attached a route in the photos along with images of what to expect.
Hope this helps you!"

"Not many people on the walk around Ogston Reservoir, and that's why my rating went above the minimum of 1 star..It's very quiet. The side away from the car parks (none of which have toilets that are open or picnic benches) is the most pleasant, see pictures. Car parks ok for a country drive and look at the view, nice grassy ares for a picnick. Walking around takes slightly more commitment than a lot of reservoir walks."
