What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Creggandevesky Court Tomb for its impressive preservation and serene lakeside setting, offering a glimpse into ancient history. However, the journey to find it is frequently described as challenging due to a lack of signage and difficult, marshy terrain, requiring significant effort and local guidance.
"Wow, nobody makes it easy for you to find this place! No signs and invisible from the closest roads.
I followed Google Maps and it brought me into the yard of a farm, which must be the closest point to the tomb. But I didn't fancy taking the risk of asking the resident so i drove to the next road on the other side of the tomb. There i found the Cregganconroe standing stones about 100 metres to the left of the road. After that, i crossed the road with my wellies on and it took me 15 mins to cross marshy ground with barely visible holes and streams. It was downright dangerous at times and I would advise anyone over 50 to avoid it unless they're very fit and a risk-taker by nature. But it gave me a good sense of achievement to reach this tomb (and uninjured too!). It is an impressively well preserved tomb considering it is about 5,500 years old! The information board is informative. It overlooks a small lake and offers serene views on a clear day. A beautiful Irish hare ran from it as I arrived. I can see why our ancestors chose here for the burial place of their loved ones."

"Have been trying to locate this Tomb for ages now..3 times I have taken the turn that signposts it,then you drive about 6 miles and come to a 4 way junction and THATS IT...NO MORE SIGN POSTS...there's no way of knowing if you are taking the right road..but on my 3rd attempt I persevered and kept stopping and asking how to find it..unfortunately most people I stopped didn't know/hadn't heard but eventually met a lovely local who basically "drove"me there with his hands whilst giving directions.
Google Maps will bring you to a point and once again..that's it ,no sign post ,met the farmer who instructed me to park at the Water Reservoir and how to get to it,apparently all signs have been taken down to avoid people like myself tramping over the land.
Put the wellies on n leapt over the gate...followed the edge of the lake(passing bemused cattle as I tripped n stumbled)...when you think you're going wrong you SHOULD see the old sign that directed you to it ,covered over but trees etc.
Just follow the lake,up on a slight hill there it is, railing around it and beautiful.Personally I felt so proud of myself but also nervous in case the farmer caught me..
It's there folks ,just be patient and you will find it.."
