"Lovely piece of public art that captures the story of Winkie the pigeon who saved the lives of a downed crew of a Bristol Beaufort bomber in Feb 1942 by flying 120 miles to her perch in Broughty Ferry , the owner alerted the airbase in Leuchers and within 15 minutes, the crew's position had been located and a rescue vessel dispatched.On 2 December 1943, Winkie was awarded the Dickin Medal for " delivering a message under exceptional difficulties and so contributing to the rescue of an Air Crew while serving with the RAF in February 1942"."
