Pontcanna(ish) recommendations?
My sister is visiting tomorrow and my plan for the day is to basically potter around Pontcanna and the city centre. She’s into independent shops, houseplants, nature, that sorta thing. Can anyone recommend some good lil shops/markets/food places/general nice places to exist in…

Riverside/Canton/Pontcanna
Are these areas nice to live in? I’m looking into renting a flat on Cowbridge Road East and was wondering if anyone has lived there and would recommend it?
Moving to the area - best trendy neighbourhoods for a young family? We lived in rough urban areas in the states so we don’t mind a little grit but we are looking for the place where people are renovating their own houses and starting up small businesses. Cardiff or anywhere between Cardiff /Swansea
Pontcanna, Roath and Pen-y-lan are the usual answers for ‘nice’ neighbourhoods in Cardiff. More expensive than other areas but very nice, leafy, good parks, trendy restaurants, etc. If you’re looking for somewhere more ‘up and coming’ (ie. Rapidly being gentrified with young…

Advice - Cowbridge or Pontcanna to live?
Hi, We are moving to Wales and want to live near Cardiff as we have family there but also need to be within 50 minutes from Morriston, Swansea. We are young professionals in our mid 30s and hope to become parents soon. Cowbridge looks nice but my worry is that it is too…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Pontcanna Fields are widely praised as a beautiful, large, and well-maintained green space offering a peaceful escape close to the city centre. Visitors appreciate the open fields for sports, picnics, and dog walking, as well as the scenic Taff Trail. Some note that it can get very busy on weekends, and caution is advised regarding cyclists on shared paths.
"Went to Pontcanna Fields Sunday for the Alzheimer's Research UK walk for a cure. Beautiful walk, lovely atmosphere will be returning with my dog."

"A beautiful and large series of fields all connected together (you have coopers field and Llandaff fields next to this one) and there's also the Taffs trail right next to it (near the riding stables). There's a lot to see and do. But it's especially nice to be able to go somewhere with no traffic and little concrete or tarmac. It puts parks in other cities to shame just with its large size and how well it's normally kept. There's normally football or rugby posts or cricket markings on the fields themselves so it's good for sports players.
Things to note:
- I recommend that you visit during the week. It gets very busy on the weekend with people travelling a cross the city to visit. Parking will also be more difficult on the weekends, especially if your looking for free parking
- People often have picnics on the weekend, causing the bins to be full. Keep in mind the park is often policed and I have seen them pounce on people and fining them for littering, so best course of action is to take your rubbish with you.
- Like the rest of Cardiff dangerous cyclists are a really problem here. They go very quick with little regard for walkers, children or pets. Some are also confrontational, even when they're in the wrong. Be careful on and off the paths and remember to picture and report any dangerous cycling. This might force the council to do something about them."

"Lovely big open space to explore. Footpath is shared with bikes but with care ok. Lots of dog walkers. Nice open areas for them to run."
