Visitors appreciate the opportunity to see Roe Deer and Otters, alongside abundant birdlife, making it a valuable local green space. Some find the central path can be inaccessible due to waterlogging.

"Portrack Marsh is a small urban nature park and is an SSSI, site of special scientific interest. Plentiful parking at the Tees Barrage where there is also a couple of places to get a coffee and a snack and the Talpore Pub which sits just above the reserve. There is a path that runs around the outside edge of the marsh which gives views across the two ponds and reed beds. There is a path across the centre of the marsh but it can be under water at times. It’s not a very big reserve and a walk only takes about 30 minutes although there is usually plenty to see and slow down a walk.
Plenty of birdlife to be seen with a mixture of habitats. Being close to the River Tees there is plenty to see passing through. Roe Deer are resident and Otter are regular visitors.
Early morning visits are usually the best for wildlife, the reserve is a popular dog walking spot and can be quute busy later in the day."
