What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Ribble Steam Railway and Museum for its well-maintained historic locomotives and the charming heritage steam train ride. The friendly volunteers and convenient free parking are also frequently highlighted as positives. Some find the train journey a bit short and keeping very young children entertained can be a challenge.
"Really enjoyable afternoon, excellent museum with a good array of Locomotives and wagons. A nice cafe and friendly, helpful volunteers. We were on the fish and chips excursion ( bought as a birthday gift ) hauled by a steam Locomotive. Would certainly visit again."
Mark Stephan
"Nice exhibition and museum with plenty of locomotives to see, sadly most cannot be entered. The steam train ride is in original old rolling stock, however the journey is short and around 3 miles each way (it's a round trip so no alighting at the turning point). There is plenty of free parking, and the on-site cafe is nice with good, well priced food. We went with young children which was a challenge to keep them entertained."
Andrew Walker
"An absolute little gem of a railway, that is home to a collection of wonderful and historic locomotives and rolling stock, including Furness Railway No. 20 - the oldest standard gauge locomotive still operating in Britain. The line is about 1.5 miles long, so a 3 mile round trip, and takes about 30 minutes. There's also a cafe and gift shop, as well as the wonderful museum on site. Thoroughly recommend."
