What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests often praise Riber Hall for its grand setting, spacious rooms, and suitability for large group celebrations, with many appreciating the thoughtful touches and beautiful views. However, some reviews mention minor issues with older house quirks like shower temperature and kitchen facilities for very large groups, suggesting a need for updates in certain areas.
"18 of us just stayed at the property for 2 nights and it was fantastic, from location to surrounding areas to how clean it was and how comfortable the beds were. We used the kitchen, outdoor space, hot tub and living room during our stay and all were perfect for how many of us there were. Kitchen had all items you would hope for for that many of us staying and more. Beds were all made and towels, dressing gowns and flip flops for all of us. Plus a little something extra left as a gift which was very appreciated from the owners - thank you. Great stay, would highly recommend."

"A group of 14 of us stayed for a long weekend and we absolutely loved it. The pictures didn't do the place justice, everything was clean and comfortable, and the hosts were friendly and left contact details in case anything went wrong. The showers could be a little tempermental in terms of temperature, but given it's an old house it's understandable - especially when a lot of us try to shower before the hot tub at the same time! The complimentary prosecco and bakewell tarts were a lovely touch as well. We had an amazing time and we'd love to come back someday."

"The good: Great location, although surrounded by other properties. Lovely, well sized bedrooms and linens, well prepared. Well equipped outside area. Property had real charm and aesthetic appeal. Size and spaces just about worked for 18 adults attending a family celebration (photos, unlike some listings, faithfully give a sense of the size to work with). Early check and late check out was most appreciated. Friendly and sympathetic housekeeper.
The not so good: the weekend was as memorable for the problems with the house as for the celebrations.
No check in meant we had to try to find ourselves and deal with challenges with the house ourselves through the stay (ie heating, pools of condensation forming, etc); car park left icy and outside areas and furniture left covered with snow from the day before check in, leaving us to make the parking area safe and outside area usable ourselves; faults in smoke alarm system over 24 hours (alarms set off throughout the house every ten minutes for 2 hours on Saturday afternoon and then another 2.5 hours from 745 am on Sunday morning), until the - separate - faulty units were identified and physically disconnected by staff on Saturday and external contractors on Sunday; house tired and needs updating in some areas (some broken window catches; some cold and unwelcoming bathrooms; underpowered hot water service; some struggling / malfunctioning kitchen appliances (dishwasher, drinks fridge); missing plug in the kitchen sink, etc); kitchen not up to support self-catering for a celebration for 18 people (fridges, ovens, small cooktop, dishwashers, hot water service, washing up sink all underpowered / undersized; one modest chopping board in the house; missing champagne flutes; etc). Owner support and care felt lacking - needed promoting for key codes, no check in, no direct contact from owners to smoke alarm issue at the time, four weeks post the stay we are still waiting for any substantive response from the owners to the full list of concerns subsequently raised in writing."
