Visitors praise the Royal Military Canal for its beautiful, relaxing atmosphere and historical significance. It's a popular spot for peaceful walks, cycling, and family-friendly activities like boat hire. Some caution is advised for water activities due to weeds and currents.
"One very hot day this summer we took our paddleboards down here and had a fun time pulling against the current & the weeds before turning around and being gently carried back on the current.
We were practicing our balance skills in our boards, my friend fell in a good few times and I would caution everyone to be wary of the weeds. His leash became quite tangled as did his legs.Fortunatley I was there to rescue him, but be careful, wear a lifejacket!
The canal and the scenery is great, and you don't need a licence from the West Hythe dam onwards towards Appledore or Rye if you want to go that far. A nice place, but be careful."

"Very fun loved rowing the boats and peaceful walk with lodes of ducks in the lake. Very quiet place to just walk u dog along not that much people service for rowing the boats was good children have to wear a life jacket which I think is good too my dogs loved it too but sadly dogs can't go on the boat last time I went anyways which was 5 months ago but just letting u guys know! My dog was looked after and I came back and they gave him water❤️! Be careful of leaning ur phone out of the boat tho because I dropped my phone in but it still worked phew! There was also a war memorial. There is no toilets at least I don't think. Don't feed ducks cuz this Karen came and said she would call police is it even a bad thing? But yh my children got very hungry and need food when we got to the food so bring a sandwich or something. Having a picnics nice only had one before there but yh."
