What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Royal Victoria Arcade charming for its Victorian architecture and unique independent shops, particularly enjoying the Donald McGill Postcard Exhibition and the lively makers' markets. However, some note a lack of modernization and maintenance in certain areas, with a wish for more diverse retail offerings.
"this mini shopping centre is lovely to go into, but lacks modernisation. or maybe just lacks shops in it. there is a record shop, a cigar store, and a few places selling odd bits and bobs, but the majority of the places are left bare and badly maintained. i wish some money would be pumped into it to turn it into a proper mini shopping centre, as i think Ryde would benefit from that.
one photo below was of the old American style diner which is now gone. in it's place lies quite an eyesore now. a shame."

"Absolutely brilliant day. The museum was open which is a first in all the years of visiting. Light was good and the stained glass windows were stunning. Never stopped to admire them for so long previously. Museum was well worth the£4 entrance fee. Such a wealth of history of Ryde as well as the saucy postcard collection."

"I discovered this little arcade when I went down to the harbour. It reminds me a lot of Burlington Arcade near Piccadilly Circus in London, just much smaller. It was unfortunately closed when I was in Ryde."
