Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the serene beauty and magical atmosphere of Rydal Hall & The Grot, particularly praising the historic Grot and its framed waterfall, as well as the charming woodland walks with hidden art. The free entry and friendly tearoom are also highlights. However, the limited and often problematic parking is a recurring point of frustration for many. Reddit

"Rydal Hall is such a great place to explore, whether you visit as a family or on your own. There is a small car park, but we like to leave that for those who really need it and instead park in Ambleside and walk which makes it more of an adventure and it is not too far.

The grounds are amazing and surprisingly free to wander, although donations are welcome. The grot and waterfall are such an inspiring spot, and the woodland walk is full of hidden sculptures and creative artwork that make it really special.

We always finish off with a hot drink and a slice of cake from the tearoom where the staff are friendly and welcoming. We would definitely recommend a visit here."

Outdoor Exploring Family

"A lovely spot not to be missed if in the area. The gardens are lovely to visit and free to enter with optional donations welcomed to support the maintenance of the gardens. The cafe is a welcome addition for visitors and there are extra activities for families to explore in the surrounding grounds and woodland.
If you're planning the Ambleside- Grasmere 'coffin route', this is the perfect place to refuel and explore on the way."

Caroline Young

"Stunningly beautiful place. One star should be deducted for the painful parking issues.... But the serenity and beauty of the garden doesn't allow me to. The waterfall, woods and greenery was fantastic . The little cafe had hot soup which was good.

Seriously though, parking is a pain. Not readily accessible by public transport esp if u r coming from afar. The car park in premises holds only a few and then it's closed off and even when folk drive off it's not opened again. I suspect the place has become more touristy without solutions found for accommodating the influx. Look for multiple parking solutions before travelling. May b the site could presell parking ( or may there R such options which escaped me )

Even with all that loved the place"
