While the website is user-friendly, the in-person experience offers deeper research capabilities. Some minor drawbacks include the lack of weekend hours and limited on-site amenities, but these are outweighed by the overall effectiveness of the centre for family history research.
"The Scotlands People website is an incredible resource. Why the English and Northern Ireland records office can’t offer something as easy to navigate and use is beyond me. Thank god I have lots of Scottish ancestry. Wonderful. The staff are always so obliging to re-scan records if they are difficult to read."
Darren McDonald
"Great place to do family tree research with the ability to check so many details and records. Price for printing is good . Only problem I find is some records are hard to read or even see. But that is because of the age ."
Jim Mccoll
"Family History Research facility Dundas Search room was easy to use. If you have a Scotland's People account you can log into that so your searches are saved and if you want to order certificates it can be done at the same time.
No printing on site. No tea coffee facilities available because of Covid restrictions. Search room places limited because of same issue. Have to book a seat ahead online. No access otherwise. Toilet facilities on site along a corridor but well signposted.
Spacious desks and plug sockets for laptops/chargers etc. Space for A4 pad and other things you might want. Lots of space around you and the desk and windows open for ventilation. Masks required throughout the visit.
Disabled provision , contact them and provide the booking number. It is possible to book an accessible parking space ( must display blue badge when using space), to be accompanied by an official carer, have use of a keyboard suitable for those with impaired vision.
Seat bookings can be transferred but they need more than 24 hours working days notice to do so."
