"Went based on previous reputation.
Was a Sunday lunchtime, we booked.
Booking system said unavailable at 1:30pm but had availability at 1:15pm and 1:45pm. So we expected it to be busy.
When we got there, place was empty with only 1 other group of 4 at an inside table.
Place was dingy and we were put in conservatory on next table to the other group. The table was drop leaf type and the gap between was crammed with crumbs. We nearly walked out at this point.
Food was well presented and tasty but portion size was small for the price.
Service was friendly but very slow considering the place was empty, we waited over half an hour for the food to arrive.
When I got home I did some research which, with hindsight I should have done before.
The food hygiene rating from May 2025, 3 months ago, was only a 1.

"Only popped in here after working like a dog all day, was absolutely gagging for a pint and just happened upon this place.
Not had good experiences with country pubs of late not cleaning their lines for donkey's and being cloudy and full of floaters.
But mine today was crisp, cold, clear as a bell and went down quicker than Bonnie Blue.
Like I said, was only passing but the food smelled amazing and loved the proper pub vibe. Will be back again for a longer stay with the other half."

"The one staff member was polite and as efficient as possible doing the bar and tables himself. Overall food was not impressive. The tables were filthy (even after wiping) I wonder when we will get back to soap and water instead of that horrible sticky stuff that cleans nothing but means no germs.. We won't go back unless something / someone says it has improved."
