Visitors rave about the stunning beauty of the Four Falls Trail, particularly the unique experience of walking behind Sgwd Yr Eira. The challenging yet rewarding hike through ancient woodlands is a major draw, though some find the terrain quite strenuous. The nearby cafe is also a highlight for its delicious cakes and friendly service.

"There’s 4 different waterfalls but we’ve been to one only which is just 10 max 15 min from the closest parking spot. Parking nearby is £5 cash and there’s a cafe nearby as well. Easy walk. Was busy but still enjoyable"

Miriam Ligios

"Fantastic place for family day out. We were enjoyed every moment. Highly recommend cafe placed nearby as they served delicious cakes, staff members are amazing and very friendly! Great place to visit!"

LUKE EL KAY

"Great place to start the 4 waterfalls trail.
During the summer and low rain months the waterfall is only a 1/4 of the size it can be in wetter months, however this has the advantages of being able to climb over the rocks above the falls and enjoy a different perspective from the west side of the river.
Follow the 4 waterfalls trail over the bridge up stream to come back on yourself to see Sgwd Clun-Gwyn (Fall of the white meadow) in all its glory from the view points. Carefully walking down as there are sheer drops of the edge and steep steps to get there in the first place."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Four Falls Trail: A Hiker's Guide

The Four Falls Trail in the Brecon Beacons National Park is a renowned walking route that showcases the natural beauty of South Wales. This approximately 4.5-mile (7km) circular trail leads hikers through ancient woodlands, across charming bridges, and to four spectacular waterfalls: Sgwd Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd y Pannwr, and the famous Sgwd Yr Eira. The trail is well-marked but can be challenging, especially after rain. TikTokInstagram

Key features of the trail include its varied terrain, from muddy paths and rocky outcrops to steep, root-covered ascents. The highlight for many is the ability to walk behind the curtain of water at Sgwd Yr Eira, offering a unique and exhilarating perspective. Other falls, like Sgwd Clun-Gwyn, present a series of cascades that are equally captivating. Visitors often describe the experience as magical and immersive, surrounded by the sounds of rushing water and birdsong. InstagramReddit

Practical advice for tackling the trail includes wearing sturdy, waterproof hiking boots, as the ground can become very slippery and muddy. Allow 3-4 hours to complete the walk, factoring in time for photography and rest stops. Parking is available at Cwm Porth and Gwaun Hepste car parks, which charge £5 cash. While beautiful year-round, the waterfalls are most powerful after rainfall, but the trail conditions can be more difficult. InstagramReddit

Experiencing the Waterfalls: Beyond the Trail

Sgwd Clun-Gwyn and its neighboring falls are more than just a hike; they offer a sensory experience. The sheer power of the water, the mist rising from the cascades, and the lush, green surroundings create a tranquil yet invigorating atmosphere. Many visitors find it a perfect escape into nature, a place to disconnect and recharge. TikTok+1

While the main trail is the primary way to experience these falls, some adventurous visitors have explored other aspects. For instance, the Brecon Beacons offer opportunities for wild camping in designated areas, providing a chance to witness the landscape at different times of day. TikTok Additionally, nearby attractions like pony trekking centres offer alternative ways to explore the wider national park. TikTok

For those seeking a different perspective, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons to avoid the peak summer crowds. The autumn colours can add another layer of beauty to the woodlands, and winter can transform the falls into icy spectacles, though trail conditions would be even more challenging. TikTok
