"Very nice museum full of the history of the area."
Andrew James
"Spent a very interesting hour and a half in this museum. It's located right in the centre of Sidmouth, in a delightful old Regency house next to the parish church, and is run entirely by volunteers. Paid just £2.50 admission (under 16's can visit for free). There are two floors, but only the ground floor is wheelchair accessible. Although the museum is only small, there was a great deal for me to see. Both floors were packed with artefacts, photographs and information about Sidmouth and its history from the age of the dinosaurs to the present day. There were archaeological finds, items salvaged from shipwrecks, railway artefacts and a World War II gallery. Was really fascinated with the excellent collection of fossils and prehistoric footprints. I also loved the exquisite Honiton lace. Everything was clearly labelled, and there were some good interactive displays. The two volunteers were very friendly and showed a great interest in their museum and its exhibits. We had a chat and I learned some interesting facts about Sidmouth. There were also books for sale at the entrance. A must-see for anyone who loves local history!"
