Royal Lytham St Anne’s - the hardest course I’ve ever played

Played Royal Lytham yesterday after playing 18 at Formby golf club in the morning, so it was our second (walking) 18 of the day. Weather was hot, course was extremely dry and fast, as was Royal Liverpool, which we played the previous day. Initial impression was very good, club…

What should a stranger know about Blackpool before visiting?

Hi all! I was looking to visit the area for about a month in November. I found a decently priced room and was interested in exploring the greater area when i’m not working. I’ve never been outside of the US and admittedly don’t know much about the UK aside from music (i’ve…

Why do British seaside towns get a universal reputation for being “bad”?

I see this perception a lot on Reddit and other online travel communities. I fully understand the history of British seaside towns, and the fact that many have indeed seen better days. Yes, there is some crumbling infrastructure, reduced tourism, and faded or boarded-up hotels…

Reviews Summary

St Anne's Old Links is lauded for its pure greens, good fairway run, and strategically placed bunkers that challenge golfers. The unique character of holes like the 9th and 10th, along with the friendly atmosphere, are frequently praised. However, course conditions, particularly in winter with temporary greens and bunkers out of play, have led to some disappointment regarding value for money.

"This is one of my favourite courses I've played you get good run on the fairways and can putt from most places off the green. Another course where you need to know your yardages to try avoid the many bunkers strategically placed. Greens run pure. Practice areas are very good especially the putting area."

Dave Brown

"Played the course for first time today (10.04 tee time) on a mild and sunny day hoping for a dry course compared to my damp inland course. Instead we found a course that was very wet in areas, 1 closed hole, 4 temporary greens, two temporary tees, inconsistent greens because of wet patches and ALL bunkers GUR. At £75 this course should be avoided in the winter. I would maybe consider playing again if £25-£30. Without bunkers in play the course is quite a boring flat course."

David Moffitt

"Must play⛳️🔥 Nice-Course, Not the Longest But Very QuirkyGreens which r Nice & Slick💫. Could be a tough knock Despite the length If the Wind Gets up’ We Got too play her On a Sunny Day With No wind at all So scored Well- The 9th,10th holes R delicious’ U Could Go Bk an Just Play them 2holes. 🐕🤭👍"
