Reviews Summary

St Clement's Church is a Grade I listed building with historical significance, notably featured in 'Four Weddings and a Funeral.' While the church fabric is maintained, visitors often note the surrounding industrial landscape and the unkempt state of parts of the churchyard. Its limited opening hours are also a factor for potential visitors.

"I used to walk down the lane to the Thames here as a primary school child. When I saw it was used in the funeral scene in Four Weddings... it was presented lovely and highlighted its beauty that had been long neglected and left. The road and infrastructure around the front is welcome for access I guess, it was on a dirt lane. The factory has been there for a long time and is companion to the landscape and site use. It's nice to know it will be there for many future generations should they wish to visit, as we used to as children making up stories about the giants who were laid to rest at the back of the overgrown church yard. A rare find in this part of Essex really."

"It's sad that this church & it's churchyard are surrounded on three sides by vast industrial buildings churning out fumes and noise.
The graveyard is very unkempt and many old graves have been lost in the undergrowth.
There is no sign that it is an active church with any information about services but the fabric of the building is being maintained to a reasonable standard.
Your visit will probably be prompted by the fact that the location was used in 'Four Weddings & a Funeral' - unfortunately there is not much of a reason to visit otherwise.
The nearby nature path that leads to the river is equally underwhelming because it leads to a tiny area of overgrown embankment that no longer allows access to the riverfront. Five minutes spent here is ample."

"Beautiful little church now on land owned by Proctor and Gamble. Whilst only open on certain days and weekends throughout the year it is still worth a visit to look around the churchyard and outside. Another interesting note is the church was one of the churches used in ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’"
