Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise St. Michael the Archangel Church for its stunning beauty, rich history, and peaceful atmosphere. The architectural details, stained glass windows, and historical artefacts are frequently highlighted as major draws. Some appreciate the affordable refreshments available, while others note its significance as the resting place of historical figures like Mary Anning.

"St Michael’s church is a step back into history. So much to see inside as well as the famous grave of Mary Anning with her brother Joseph. Definitely worth seeing.

Also there is the grave of MARY PHILPOT - Mary (1777-1838), who settled there for life.

Philpot family; the sisters Mary, Margaret and Elizabeth made a significant collection of fossils and often worked with Mary Anning.

I would definitely recommend having a look around and finding out more if you have the time and are interested in the history. 👍🏻"

"Visited by chance during a visit to the town. I was overwhelmed by the beauty of this church with its rich collection of artefacts and memorials, The quality of the building details and the fittings is superb. Overall it exudes a feeling of being used and being loved in the cleanliness and floral decorations. The stained glass windows are thrilling and the font is especially interesting. Such history, such a joy to be in. A little historical leaflet is suggested."

Richard Avery2021

"Of historical importance for Lyme Regis, not least because the cemetery contains the grave of famed fossil finder Mary Anning. The tower is the oldest visible element and contains fine Norman arches and pillars revealed during partial renovation in the 19th century, though there is archaeological evidence it is actually of Saxon construction. There is a 15th century tapestry on display, and a self serve kitchen enables visitors to get what is likely to be the cheapest cup of tea in Lyme Regis..."
