What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
One Garden Brighton is a visually appealing destination with beautiful gardens and a charming shop selling local produce. While the coffee is well-regarded, the cafe's limited food menu and occasional service issues have been noted by visitors. Parking fees are also a consideration for those driving.
"Delightful hidden gem! I love the cafe here and they have some great gluten free options (although they do often sell out). The shop is wonderful and sells lots of local produce and lovely plants. It’s definitely worth visiting if you’re passing!"

This afternoon I drove to the area near the University of Sussex. Suddenly I felt like having a coffee, so I found this restaurant. It’s a newly renovated place with very elegant décor. Unfortunately, I was still quite full; otherwise, I would definitely have tried their cakes and bread. I only ordered two cups of coffee, which turned out to be pretty good — rich and aromatic. The only drawback is that the location is a bit out of the way, and if you drive there, parking nearby costs £1.70 per hour. Still, I think it’s worth it because the environment is beautiful, the restaurant is clean, and it’s definitely worth a try."

The Cafe Experience: A Mixed Bag
Despite the menu changes, the cafe does offer some notable gluten-free options, which are appreciated by those with dietary needs, though they are known to sell out. Prices have also been a point of discussion, with some visitors finding them on the higher side. The service has also received criticism, with one review calling it 'fucking abysmal.' It's advisable to check the current menu and be prepared for a potentially limited selection and varying service quality.
Navigating Cafe Expectations
For those planning a visit, it's wise to manage expectations regarding the cafe's offerings. While the coffee is generally well-received, the food menu might not align with what some visitors anticipate from a 'bakery style cafe.' If you're looking for a full hot meal, you might be disappointed. However, if you're after a coffee and a lighter bite, and appreciate a beautiful setting, it could still be a pleasant experience. The shop attached to the cafe offers local produce and plants, which can be a good alternative if the cafe selection doesn't suit.
Exploring the Gardens and Shop
Adjacent to the gardens is a shop that complements the natural theme. This shop is praised for selling a good range of local produce and lovely plants, offering visitors a chance to take a piece of Brighton's local offerings home with them. It's described as a wonderful place to browse, adding another dimension to the One Garden experience beyond just the floral displays.
A Community Hub
Beyond the aesthetic appeal, there are mentions of graffiti and protests related to 'One Garden,' suggesting underlying community or political sentiments. While the exact nature of these issues isn't detailed in the provided text, it's a layer of context to be aware of. Despite these undercurrents, the physical space of the gardens and the shop remain a positive draw for many visitors seeking a pleasant and visually rich experience.
