What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Savoy is widely celebrated for its iconic status, luxurious ambiance, and exceptional service, often described as a 'princess-like treatment.' Guests rave about the festive decorations, exquisite afternoon tea, and the historic American Bar. However, a few reviews mention service that felt procedural rather than personal, and occasional discrepancies in room bookings, though these are often resolved.
"The Savoy is often praised as one of the world’s most luxurious hotels, with reviews describing “princess-like treatment from the moment you arrive.” Unfortunately, my experience did not reflect this reputation.
The service felt more procedural than personal. For example, when I asked the doorman for a taxi, no arrangement was made by phone; instead, I had to wait outside in the cold for about 15 minutes until one arrived. When I arrived early in the morning and mentioned I was feeling unwell, I was only shown to the reading room without further care. Even the evening turndown service was carried out in a cold, mechanical manner.
There was also a discrepancy in my room type booking. Although the rate difference was refunded, the overall experience fell short of the high expectations I had for such a renowned luxury hotel, leaving me disappointed. Also, the response to a separate survey stated that the room name had changed due to a reclassification of refurbished rooms. This explanation did not match the information on the hotel website, where Luxury King Room still exists as a separate category. The inconsistency between these explanations was confusing and unsatisfactory.
Complimentary drinks and shoe-shining service were available, but nothing remarkable. Honestly, this level of service can easily be experienced at a decent hotel in Japan."

"A family weekend to celebrate my Wife’s birthday.
The whole experience was excellent and I can’t thank the Savoy Team enough for making us welcome and taking the time to ensure my Wife had a memorable experience to treasure.
The Savoy runs like clockwork, is maintained in pristine order and retains all the traditional values that ensure its worldwide reputation."

"Wonderfully festive visit to the American Bar today. The perfect end to a lovely day Christmas shopping. Staff were friendly and although the bar was busy, it didn't hinder conversation. It was, however, just a tad too dark in there."
