"Went to The Shard late afternoon, no queue at all and paid around £60 for two. Quick bag check and metal detector, then two smooth, fast lifts to the top. The views were absolutely incredible, and there’s even a bar up there! A bit windy but surrounded by glass. Overall, an amazing experience and well worth it."

"Was gifted entry to the Shard. Staff were attentive from the moment of arrival as you queued. Security process of checking bags was courteous and swift. We were then guided to the lift which took us up to 38th floor then another to floor 68. Smooth but fast - ears popped a little. Views from the Shard as you would expect are breathtaking. Whilst therei had a scone with jam and clotted cream which was delicious as was the complimentary glass of presecco. Chris provided Great knowledge about the history of the area, the building and the eyewatering cost to buy an apartment there. Highly recommended - will visit again."

"We went here for my birthday 🎂. My wife booked in advance the restaurant Hutong. The restaurant is on the 33rd floor with spectacular views over London. We had an amazing experience and the food was wonderful ❤️. What made our experience even better was the staff. They were very friendly and helpful. We had special treatment from 2 very helpful staff, Patrycja and Rokesh. The 2 of these were very helpful and friendly and went out of their way to be accommodating to my wife and myself. I would highly recommend going to the Shard and especially the restaurant Hutong. As an extra special treat, talk with Patrycja as she has recently made up a wonderful poster of the buildings surrounding the Shard from an overhead view showing what is North, East, South, and West. We had a fabulous time and look forward to visiting the place again in the future. Thank you for a lovely evening with a great atmosphere."

Experiencing 'The View from The Shard'
To make the most of your visit, booking tickets online in advance is highly recommended, especially for popular times like sunset. Consider the weather forecast; a clear day will significantly enhance the visibility and the overall experience. The journey up is via high-speed lifts, which are smooth and efficient, though some visitors report their ears popping slightly due to the rapid ascent.
While the views are the main event, there's also a bar on the 72nd floor where you can enjoy a drink while taking in the scenery. Some visitors suggest that while the experience is breathtaking, it comes with a significant price tag, and for those on a tighter budget, free alternatives like Horizon 22 might offer a comparable, albeit less elevated, view.
Dining Delights at The Shard
Dining at these establishments means you're paying not just for the food but also for the prime location and the breathtaking panorama. Visitors often highlight the exceptional service, with staff going the extra mile to make occasions memorable, such as special birthday celebrations.
For those seeking a more casual yet still elevated experience, options like Oblix offer a contemporary grill and lounge atmosphere. It's worth noting that while the views are a significant draw, some reviews suggest that the food quality, while good, might not always justify the premium price point for all diners.
Architectural Significance and Design
The building's innovative design incorporates a 'shards' system, where the building's exterior is clad in 5,500 panes of glass. This not only gives it its unique appearance but also allows for natural ventilation in parts of the building. The structure tapers towards the top, culminating in a spire that houses the viewing platforms and technical equipment.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, The Shard is a multi-use building, housing offices, the Shangri-La Hotel, restaurants, and the popular viewing galleries. Its construction was a significant undertaking, making it the tallest building in the UK and one of the tallest in Europe, symbolizing London's status as a global city.
