Saturday morning trail run in the sunshine. Starting from Penenden Heath I headed to Detling and then climbed up to the top of the Downs at White Horse Wood Country Park. After a quick detour to look the remains of Thurnham Castle it was a nice long descent past the Black Horse pub down to the vineyards. I stopped for a coffee and a very nice slice of cake at the Detling Community Store, and then ...

"Lovely woodland walk, and fantastic views from high above Detling and Bearsted.
There's not enough left of Turnham Castle to be of much interest to most people, but the information boards give you a good idea of how it looked and it's purpose.
Lots of picnic benches near the carpark. Great for a snack and a coffee after your walk! Reasonable carparking, charged for the day."

Gary Newson
