"I was genuinely and pleasantly surprised by how amazing the Festival of Sport and Wellbeing was at the War Memorial part - at the heart of the town the community. Seeing such a wide variety of activities—from acro, cycling, and Boccia, to gymnastics, hammer throw, archery, swimming, surfing, and climbing—was incredible. It truly showcased the diversity and beauty of sport, all within the lovely setting of the War Memorial Park.
The event made great use of space and felt inclusive and vibrant throughout. What really stood out was the atmosphere—it felt like a real celebration of community, health, and activity. To be honest, events like this should happen every weekend!
We were especially grateful that all the rides and activities were free. It made the day thoroughly enjoyable not just for the kids, but even for the teenager in our group (no small feat!). We left feeling proud of Basingstoke and so appreciative of everyone who made the day possible. We had an absolute blast—thank you!"

The grounds themselves have a history, having been developed on former wetland known as Street Mead, with improvements made using materials from a nearby Remount Camp. This layered history adds depth to the visitor experience, offering a chance to connect with both natural beauty and historical significance.
