We are pleased to have hogget back from Garry Schofield, farming on National Trust land in Upper Wharfedale. These are true Swaledale hoggets, that have run an extra season on the pasture, left to fatten naturally through spring and summer. This is meat you only get once a year. A seasonal special. Deeper in flavour than lamb, yet still tender, carrying the clean taste of grass and the work that ...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Upper Wharfedale for its stunning natural beauty, diverse walking trails suitable for all abilities, and opportunities for wildlife spotting. The charming riverside spots and hidden gorges are particular highlights. Some find the parking and toilet facilities a minor inconvenience due to costs.

"Absolutely beautiful! Can't believe this place has been on my doorstep and I didnt even know. Theres about 4 different trails for all different fitness types. Be prepared and take wellies in the colder months. Toilet facilities at the car park and you do need to pay for parking. You can get down to the river if you want to. Lovely walk for dogs as well but note that there can be live cattle around too."

"With natural beauty in abundance, this park is fabulous.
If you like walking, no matter how fit you are there's a path for you. Boots are a must at this time of the year as some areas are muddy."

"well I've been coming here for years, 1st with my parents as a youngster & now as a father myself with my kids, dog or just to relax.
Richmond itself is a perfect place to reflect upon the busy weeks we all get.
Hudswell wood well you've quite alot of paths you can venture along, most not suitable for wheel chairs or pushchairs but to steep hill location, steep steps to travel up/down or a tight twisty path, 1 of which goes along the rivers edge which is very rocky.
planty of spots for the dog or even kids to play in the shallow water & for you to enjoy a picnic, theres a couple of small sandy beaches & some pebbled beach/water front areas to pick from & enjoy.
for this walk, there is a good nicely spaced car park which is a pay & display. clean toilets & picnic tables just to the side of the car-park itself.

you can also venture to Richmond castle, or to the falls/rapid area... for all those camera handy ppl... these areas do tend to make some nice images.

for me everyone is friendly, I've never had any issue in the car-park, stalks are also in the area (seen one today 16.10.2018) king fishers can be seen, owls in certain areas & times, deer, rabbits, sometimes cows/horses & then the general bird population which I've no where to start."
