Slowly they shift, cracking the black mass, Easing their limbs upwards.
Suddenly one creature splits the surface, And a splinter of white light shatters the darkness.
The beasts emerge with gaping, panting mouths,
Dragging themselves from the earth.
Their great, dark-furred bodies lift
Onto long, spindly legs and push up through the trees.
Leaping into the air they shudder with excitement,
Urgency.
Danger,
Scorching a trail behind them
