Wigmore Castle is a captivating, free-to-enter ruin appreciated for its wild beauty and historical significance. Visitors enjoy exploring the atmospheric grounds and the panoramic views, though some note that the overgrowth can limit access to certain areas like the keep. It's a place that rewards exploration for history buffs and photographers alike.

"Lovely castle, very overgrown but lower parts accessible through cut paths. Its a shame the keep is not accessible due to faulty steeps and concerns for wildlife.
Still worth a visit."

"Bit of an amble to this one but doable for anyone with a level of fitness. Parked in the village hall car park which was open for use of the toilets - thank you.
This is clearly not a priority for English heritage currently probably because I'm they don't charge u to get in. Very overgrown which is understandable from a nature point of view but it means a lot of the ruins can not be seen. Stairs up to the keep out of use but there is a way around the back for the adventurous soul. Worth a visit for history lovers."

"Founded in 1067 by William FitzOsbern, it became a key stronghold for the powerful Mortimer family and played a significant role in controlling the Welsh Marches.
After the Mortimers lost power, the castle's significance diminished. It was partially dismantled during the English Civil War to prevent its use by Royalist forces.
Now it is a well-preserved ruin, under the care of English Heritage, offering a glimpse into its medieval past.
Love a castle like this, where you can just explore, and learn about the history of it.
Overgrown in some areas, English Heritage really needs to cut it back, it's a shame really, as the castle does look good, and Big.
Free entry, we parked down a side street, and about a 10 minute walk, you pass a church as well that's worth a look, as they're both connected."
