What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Windsor and Royal Borough Museum for its engaging local history exhibits and family-friendly activities, all housed within a beautiful historic building. The friendly staff and affordable (often free) admission are frequently highlighted as major positives. Some note the museum's small size and occasional renovations, but overall, it's considered a worthwhile and charming stop.
"This little museum is situated in a very beautiful building. It has a stocks outside that is a photo opportunity to those cheeky ones! The guard 💂outside had the proper attire on to the tea, he was very friendly and always seemed cheerful whilst he was dealing with other visitors. which made him very professional indeed. If you ask them nicely you might be allowed a picture with them. We did 😁!
Inside the museum itself it has 2 floors. The first is very informative about other aspects of Windsor that you wouldn’t of thought of, and then upstairs in more about the royal family.
There is toilets inside and there is also a stair lift attached to one side of the stairs, which I thought was quite considerate to visitors that might benefit from it. Try not to miss the portraits along the ceilings near the stair area though.
Kids crafts was on at the time we visited but we didn’t go to this, we looked at the museum itself instead. There was 2 lady staff upstairs that were very polite and informative when questions were asked.
Free admission, recommend going to visit!"

"I walked in, imagining a museum. It wasn't free. I had to come back with cash after finding an ATM.
As much as I like museums, galleries and other cultural places, this one cannot qualify as a museum. It's a single room. Not much larger than a living room with some photos, posters, screens and some odd objects.
After a minute, that was it. I have seen everything and there were no other rooms. I still tried to search for anything worthwhile, but apart from reading posters and staring at some old objects, there was nothing exciting at all."

"Great little museum with lots of local history in a pretty historic building, sadly we missed out on the up stairs section of the building as there was a lot of renovations going on but that can only be a good thing in the long run, the audio guide was really good and informative, it was a little humorous in places too, I'll have to go back and see what it's like when it's finished."
