"This is an historic Marello Tower sited on top of the hill near the west end of Eastbourne 's Promenade. It is unusual in that it is sunk into a pit, presumably to add further protection against cannon fire from ships, although, perhaps this was done later.
The tower is set in a nice garden layout and the views are exceptional on a clear day.
If you visit here, do check out the old lifeboat museum at the bottom of the hill too."
