"In response to a recent negative review of our local Urban Wildlife Refuge I would like to clarify that before it's designation as such it was an alfalfa farm for about 100 years, alfalfa being an invasive species of plant of very little use to local wildlife of any variety. Being a monoculture, the process of transforming the space into one of biological diversity is not something that is done overnight or even in 5-10 years time. Having worked here for 4 years now I have seen the slow transformation begin to take place as we continue to remove the weeds each year and plant all varieties of native plants and trees. The diversity of life you will see here today is nothing like what the farm had to offer during the previous century of cultivating alfalfa. Here you will see plants, birds, mammals, reptiles and insects of all kinds if you are only willing to look. Please be patient with the process, we are lucky to have these hundreds of acres dedicated to this cause within the surrounding industrial businesses, and maintenance and care for the land is something that works only on the schedule of Mother Nature."

"Prior to the Valle De Oro being built, the fields were farmed and covered with birds. There is a nice visitor center, however, the fields look like Death Valley and the weeds are so tall that the birds can’t use the fields. Whoever is in charger of this project should be fired! Don’t waste your time driving to the Valle De Oro, there are better options further south. Take a look at the pictures, this is all you’re going to get, 600+ acres of wasted opportunity."

"What a wonderful space! I didn't even check out the visitor center inside since I didn't think to bring a lock for my bike. I did ride the Bosque Loop trail and it was gorgeous! Easy enough to bring the kiddos, but definitely interesting enough for adults! Beautiful land dotted with lovely art, right on the south edge of town, totally accessible by bicycle! I rode up from the Bosque multi use path on a whim last Saturday and just couldn't stop snapping pics! Do yourself a favor and stop by, you won't regret it! I'll be back and next time I'll bring a lock 😊"
