What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Alpine Amtrak station is a functional, unstaffed stop serving as a gateway to Big Bend. Visitors appreciate its proximity to local dining and shops, making it convenient for quick stops. However, the lack of staff and amenities, along with short train stop durations, requires careful planning.
"Nice little town in Texas served by Amtrak"
Richard Ferris
"This is a small enclosed station that is not staffed except for a conductor to check you in and direct you to the platform when you arrive. There is a parking lot next to the tracks, and inside, a restroom and a book exchange. It is right in town, so you are close to restaurants and shops. The eastbound train arriving in Alpine is the combined Sunset Limited and Texas Eagle. It splits in the night, with the Texas Eagle heading to Chicago, and the the Sunset Limited heading to New Orleans. The conductors will make sure you get on the correct car. If the eastbound train is on time, leaving at 8:45pm, you should have about 20 minutes to get to the dining car or cafe for food before they close."
Martha
"I cannot express enough how much I absolutely despise this train station. Are the people that work here aware that people live in this town and may need to cross the railroad tracks? I shouldn’t have to wait 30 minutes for the train to start moving. Please do a better job at your job."
