What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Gordon F. Moore Community Park is a large, versatile space offering numerous playgrounds, sports facilities, and natural beauty for recreation and relaxation. While many appreciate the variety of amenities and scenic spots, some visitors note that certain areas, like a bridge, are in disrepair, and there are concerns about ongoing underground mining activity.
"There are so many different playgrounds that you can play at. Some of them are a little bit more run down than others but there's still a large array of various sizes of playgrounds. Swings, slides, tunnels, monkey bars, etc. one of the playgrounds that's right by the front entrance is fenced in which is nice. There was a bathroom right there as well. The paths, gardens, trees, and pond were nice to walk around and enjoy the outdoors. There is a old rickety bridge and pavilion near the water. Wish those could be taken down or replaced to look nice and be safe."

"It is a great place to do pictures for homecoming or prom . It's a wonderful place just to go for a walk even to do a little fishing. But sometimes it's nice just to get away and relax. Great place for a family picnic. Wonderful family events take place here all the time. Go to the Alton Park and rec page. You can sign up for all different activities and sports events for your kids, for all ages."

"they continue to mine under this park. it should be closed down completely. as recently as october 2025 i've felt and heard loud explosions underground that shook the ground. underneath the childrens play area even.
besides that this park is NOT A STATE PARK it is a city of alton IL park -- technically it is "open to the public" but in reality if you're not someone going to the golf course, or to the baseball field, or taking your kids to the area for children, or playing frisbee golf or tennis or pickelball or some high school kid from alton doing something for high school stuff then they don't really want you in here."
