Whitewater State Park is known for its noticeable lack of mosquitos due to the cold, fast moving water-making mosquito breeding minimal! It is one of our favorite state parks in all of Minnesota (even in the rain!) Hike Chimney Rock Trail for the most beautiful views, take a swim at the beach, and climb the nearby Elba Tower! It’s been awhile, Minnesota! We made our way to Whitewater State Park over Thanksgiving break and this park absolutely blew my mind! While the landscape is very different, it reminds me a little bit of Devil’s Lake with the steep & rocky terrain. This park has 8 miles of hiking trails, a river for fishing, paved bike paths, camping and so much more! We did part of the Dakota & the Meadow trail...

📍 Whitewater State Park, Minnesota November 21st... The last hike we took before Aaron & I got COVID. Luckily we only had mild symptoms, but today is my last day in quarantine & I cannot wait to be free! I’m sure the boys won’t know what to do with themselves after having us home the last two weeks but I think we all need a little break from each other 🤣 #quarantinelife #quarantine #covid #pr...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Whitewater State Park for its stunning natural beauty, particularly its limestone bluffs and the serene river valley. The park is a favorite for its excellent hiking trails, rewarding fishing opportunities, and a unique lack of mosquitoes. While some trails are rugged, the well-maintained facilities and helpful rangers enhance the overall experience.

"This is a favorite of many I know, and me! It is nestled within the bluffs of South Eastern MN. Beautiful, serene place to hike, or have a picnic lunch! You can hike the Meadow Trail with kids, or the more advanced trails up in the bluffs alone or with friends. If hiking the Coyote trail, id recommend going up the stairs side. There are alot but if you need a break, take one! Its MUCH better going up that way and down the switchback (other) side. I hiked this in 1 1/2 hrs. The most beautiful overlook I've been up to at the park so the stairs are worth it!
Inspiration Point is also stunning; it is the only overlook completely unchanged by man in many many many yrs!"

"This state park offers trails for every level of hiker. The Meadow, The Valley and The Trout Run Creek trails are great for those who want little to no elevation on their hike. The other trails have various levels of elevations and stairs, but all lead to spectacular views. Each hiker should determine what they can handle. What was listed as difficult seemed moderate to some. Research your trails and talk with the rangers at the office/vistor/gift shop. They are wonderful to talk to. Download your maps, as there is little to no cell service due to the gorgeous bluffs that surround you. But, if you don't, the trails are some of the best marked trails in the State Park System.
Watching a family fishing for trout was a smile maker.
Our Campground site was clean and spacious.
Kuddos to all who make this park so spectacular."

"Whitewater State Park is a wonderful place to bring your family and friends! While I have been hiking and exploring Whitewater for many years, I had my first camping experience EVER this past weekend.

The campsites were very well maintained and it was clear that both patrons and park rangers deeply respect the area and the wildlife within it.

The bathroom and shower facilities exceeded my wildest dreams. They were clean (despite a few small bugs, but hey, that’s to be expected!) and they actually smelled…good and fresh?

This is THE campsite to go to if you or a loved one are new to camping. It’s a great introductory site!"
