Crossing Eagle River has been done, but only if the water level is low enough (usually thigh or lower). It can get dangerous quick if attempting to cross when the water level is higher and faster. Aside from the Eagle River roadblock, the trail is incredibly gorgeous and a beautiful experience in the Chugach Mountains"

"We had a fairly easy trek up to the cabin from Girdwood for a warm, dry night while it snowed outside. Our early fresh start the following morning saw us through some sketchy but majestic spots down to Eagle River for our crossing where the water was ankle deep. After changing socks and shoes and repositioning gear for the final leg, we set off toward Eagle River nature center to finish our hike."
