Alaska in the fall is my favorite time of year. It’s fleeting. And it’s breathtaking. This was taken at Eklutna lake, an easy 45 minute drive north of Anchorage. The drive is just as beautiful and the road ends here. You can hike, camp, or rent out one of the state cabins along the lakeside trail. There are also kayaks and bikes available for rent at Lifetime Adventures. It’s a popular spot for...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Eklutna Lake for its stunning, serene beauty and the abundance of outdoor activities available. Many highlight its peaceful atmosphere and breathtaking glacial blue waters, often deeming it more special than other famous lakes. While the scenery is universally loved, some mention trail erosion near the water's edge as a point of caution.

"Stunning scenery of the lake and mountains. Tons of stuff to do such as kayaking, riding bike, walking the trail, camping, or just enjoying the day lakeside."

Christoff Romany

"Eklutna lake was amazing, we ended up only walking for about 8 miles total, but there was so much more to explore! They have bike and kayak rentals. Some parts of the trail have been effected by erosion, so be careful close to the edge of the trail closest to the water. We didn’t see any big wildlife but saw a huge bear paw print in some fresh mud!"

Elizah F

"This lake is a special place! Visited here recently and all I can say is WOW! I've visited Crater Lake in Oregon, and I can say that this lake is much more special than Crater Lake! It is quiet and the awesome part is it is off of the highway, and the noise level is next to none. I highly recommend coming to visit this lake! It's the best lake I've ever visited!"
