Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the absolutely breathtaking, unobstructed views of Mount Rainier and its glaciers from Gobbler's Knob Fire Lookout. The historic structure adds a unique charm, and many find the challenging access and hike well worth the effort for the solitude and scenery. Some reviewers mention odd encounters and the lack of facilities, but the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive.

"We started from the Christine Lake trail head which was supposed to be 8.6 miles round trip hiking. However the road to get to the trailhead is washed out in multiple places which added an extra 10.4 miles to the round trip hike. I still think the 19 miles was worth it. We were the only ones on the trail and we were able to have an amazing adventure."

"Awesome stay and experience! Breathtaking views! And fresh air. The people are a bit strange though. Saw somethings at night. Wife sent a recipe I could make by myself lol. Pizza casserole. Haha. It was delicious. Had a pleasant stay. Wouldn't recommend approaching hooded figures though. If ya see one hide beneath the bed and quietly leave . Other than that. Happy stays!"

"West-side access is closed far down the mountain so most people get here from the Westside Road trailhead in Mt. Rainier NP. Bicycle is a good option to get to the Lake George trailhead (about 3 miles), then 2.4 miles on a really good, well-signed trail to the lookout. Outstanding view of the mountain. Sometimes people overnight in the lookout (though it's actually closed to camping) and there's no toilet up there, only at Lake George."
