What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise North Star Nature Preserve as a favorite spot for its peaceful atmosphere, stunning natural beauty, and abundant wildlife. It's ideal for short hikes, bike rides, and especially river floats. Some note the logistical requirement of two cars for river trips and the potential for crowds on weekends.
"This is our favorite place to go on a short little hike or bike ride, and to river float on our paddle boards. You do have to have two groups / cars in order to do the float (one at the top of where you drop in and one for taking you and your boards back up) but it's so peaceful and a beautiful place to explore and relax on a nice summer day. There is a lot of animal activity out here, if you want to accidentally run into a moose or a bear taking a nice little drink or a dip in the river."

"Once you get off independence pass, coming from Twin Lakes, the preserve will be on the left. Park on the side of the road and paddle out at the beach. Amazing views and gorgeous water plus wildlife. Saw lots of little trout swimming by while going up and down. The water temp isn’t too cold and there were some pretty deep areas that you can jump in and take a little swim. We’ve been twice and once was smokey, but even on a smokey day, it’s still beautiful 🤩"

"We came during the off season with somewhat unexpected snow at this time of year but it was beautiful nonetheless"
