What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Astoria Riverwalk for its beautiful scenery, accessibility, and the variety of activities it offers. The flat, paved path is ideal for walking, biking, and enjoying the waterfront. Many appreciate the chance to see sea lions and ride the historic trolley, though some note that parking can be challenging during busy periods.
"6.4mi. Yes its that long! I've started at either end, but never done the whole thing at once! My favorite is to park at the little trailhead off of Lagoon Road, a shady spot with a little wooden bridge over a creek. From there you'll head to the river for lovely scenic views and enormous container ships. Lots of blackberries on this end! This WAS the old rail line coming into town, where the core of engineers built rock levies to bring the train straight in, creating some lagoons and ancient wooden trestles. As you cross into 'civilization', you'll see lighted pylons that light the path for 4 miles into town, making it a bit safer. Stroll past famous piers and apartments, fishing boat launches, see the sealions crowding the now-useless docks, and the Columbia River Maritime museum. Keep going, you'll go thru historic Astoria downtown, under the remarkable Astoria-Megler bridge, a vetereans memorial, more bridges, sealions, charming restaraunts, and finally to the 'utilitarian' side of Astoria, the marina, warehouses, boat yards and finally the west trailhead that banks on Youngs River. You can bicycle too, a little challenging on the wooden bridges and old railways. Dogs on leashes are ok"

"Really loved this walking path! A great way to view the river and the town. It certainly helped that I was there on a beautiful sunny day with the salty sea breeze welcoming me. Easy flat grade and goes past many places to stop. You can also bike it or take the trolley!"
