Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Harriet Tubman Home for its deeply moving and informative tours, led by exceptionally knowledgeable and passionate guides. The historical significance of the site and the opportunity to connect with Tubman's legacy are highlighted as profound experiences. While some areas may be under renovation, the overall sentiment is one of deep appreciation and inspiration.

"The Harriet Tubman House is an exceptional tour I’d recommend to anyone. The 90-minute experience went by in a blink thanks to our incredibly knowledgeable and personable guide. With his engaging, emotive, and perfectly crafted story telling, he simultaneously captivated our group with an age range of 3 to 50.

Starting with a guided overview of Tubman’s life, the tour then transitions into a self-guided walk through the visitor center—an engaging exhibit space with thoughtful displays and infographics. Some personal artifacts from Tubman's life are spread sporadically throughout. Finally the group is brought into Harriet Tubman’s home, still on its original foundation. Only a few personal artifacts remain, yet the space remains magnetic. As our guide put it, “A house without a story is just a building.” Here, the story is what brings everything to life.

The team here is so dedicated and you exit the tour with a newfound perspective and deeper appreciation for one of America’s greatest heroes. The Tubman House pairs neatly with visiting Harriet Tubman’s gravesite and the William Seward House—each just a short distance away."

"While visiting the Susan B. Anthony home I was told that Harriet Tubman’s home was only 1 hour away. Imagine the excitement!! You must go to see her home. I’m still excited and was there a week ago. Her gravesite is also at local cemetery. Her 2nd husband was Nelson Davis and that’s her last name on tombstone.

I drove to Auburn and this tour was simply amazing! I learned so much about her that has never been shared; she owned 32 acres of land and that her brothers were brick masons and built the home that’s standing after her first home burned. Harriet is an amazing woman and such a marvelous role model for ALL! The tenacity and strength she has is remarkable!!!

They prefer cash at gift shop but do take cards. They have t-shirts, post cards, bookmarks etc. The museum is also amazing! They are needing donations to help complete renovations of her home.

I learned that she was an entrepreneur and business woman who could not read or write.

The tour starts with Mr. Carter who has been overseeing land etc for 36 years. He gives a detailed history in the museum. Then we headed to the home for the age. The tour last at least 1 hour 45 minutes.

We couldn’t tour home because still under construction. They need to raise more funds to complete. 1.7 million was raised by Mr. Carter and another. The barn was renovated but after learning has was gas in soil under house and removing that soil, the money was gone and they couldn’t finish renovating her house. They have to raise more funds to complete.

This was such a wonderful experience and I never knew Harriet Tubman owned so much land; 32 acres in the 1880”s. What a magnificent woman and example for all of us who are still in the struggle!"

"Oh my goodness, the tour guide could have his one man show! Very entertaining and such a great informational tour. The first hour is the guide, Paul, telling us about Harriet’s life. In his words, “a home without a story is just a building”.
After the story telling, we saw the inside of the Home for the Aged and walked the property. It was a great time! Well worth the visit! I also, a white middle aged woman learned a lot about the PC words to use."
