"Very special place for exploring history - website provides excellent map making it easy to find revolutionary, confederate, jewish and other sections. Big place with thousands of stones and monuments, two hours wasn't nearly enough to explore. I was told the caretaker in the office is very helpful but we didn't meet him as we were there on a Sunday. Check out the very unique "upended cannon" at a revolutionary grave:"

"Incredible cemetery with a lot of history if you’re into that sort of thing. Tons of old gravestones a lot from the US Civil War. You can see were the soldiers from the US Hunley are buried. Need to do the self guided driving tour through the grounds and look at all the old grave markers surrounded by majestic oaks with hanging Spanish moss. We spent a few hours just driving around and looking and imagining the history from that era. Definitely very scenic and worth your time. No offense intended by the pictures with the rebel flags, they were on some of the gravestones of the confederate soldiers."

"What a beautiful cemetery! Even visiting when it was freezing out, I was happy to walk around this unexpected gem in Augusta, GA. My fiance and I came initially just to visit the vault of Wyllys, who was a notorious, superstitious gambler. However, we enjoyed the huge magnolias, the deep-rooted history, and the solemn scenery for a lot longer than I expected that we would. If you enjoy historic places or cemeteries, this is definitely one I would suggest. As someone else's review said: this place has been here a LONG, long time!"
