What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are consistently amazed by the artistic talent and detail found in the downtown murals, often describing them as 'mesmerizing' and 'amazing.' Many appreciate the free access and the opportunity to discover art in unexpected places. However, some express concern about the fading condition of certain murals and the potential for them to be lost over time.
"I love seeing graffiti as art. In reality, isn't it all art? Art is so difficult to define. One building I stopped by seemed to be just walls and no roof or anything inside. Such attention to detail! This is amazing. Whoever is behind this is a freaking genius. Take a moment. Look around. Think about the time and effort others have put into this."

"This place is a National Treasure, I hope the owner of the building can protect and pay someone local to keep it open and cared for. From what we were able to find out, the space is in danger of being forgotten.
We had the honor and pleasure of meeting Mr. “Diesel” McGee and visiting this amazing place. Special thanks to Mr. Kevin Harris for assisting! Even if you can’t get inside, the murals on the outside, theater across the street, and murals on some other buildings in this neighborhood are well worth the visit. Love!!!!"
Catrina Forcier
"See it while you still can. Exterior paint is fading fast. Can't see the interior at all. "Baton Rouge" mural very faded and some of the window coverings have been forcibly removed. Still worth a look as it has some of the best work in town."

The Art of the Hunt: Navigating Downtown Murals
When embarking on your art exploration, comfortable footwear is non-negotiable. You'll likely be walking through various neighborhoods, including alleys and side streets, to find the most captivating pieces. Consider the time of day for optimal viewing and photography; early mornings or late afternoons often provide softer light and fewer crowds. While most outdoor murals are accessible 24/7, daylight hours ensure the best visibility and safety. Remember that public art is a dynamic form, and some pieces, especially those with a graffiti art style, may be in a state of flux or even fading, making them a unique, albeit sometimes ephemeral, part of the urban landscape. Beyond the Walls: The Impact of Public Art
The creation of these artworks often involves collaboration between artists, city officials, and community organizations. For example, Kernersville actively seeks sponsorships to fund more murals, partnering with arts councils to facilitate donations. This community involvement ensures that public art reflects the local spirit and stories. Whether it's depicting the birthplace of the blues in Clarksdale or showcasing the history of a region, these murals serve as visual narratives that connect residents and visitors alike to the place they are experiencing. The Louisiana Art and Science Museum in Baton Rouge, for instance, is surrounded by art that draws inspiration from local culture and history.
