Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Chimney Rock for its iconic status as a pioneer landmark and the informative visitor center exhibits. Many appreciate the opportunity to walk the trails and connect with history. Some find the museum fee a bit high for the size of the exhibit space, but acknowledge the value of the free outdoor access.

"This is a very small museum with a fee of $8.00 for adults. The exhibits are informative with interactive areas for children. There were 3 children really enjoying playing in the wagon loading exhibit when I was there. I enjoyed seeing the original artefacts from the Oregon trail and homesteading pioneers. I have included a photo of an original tar bucket that emigrants would hang from their wagon. It was used to grease the wheels and axles . The bathroom was fun with its own mini-exhibits on the outside and inside stall doors on the perils of the trail—photos below. As a visitor who is interested in Oregon Trail history, I would rather see the museum add more exhibits and reduce the space of the gift shop."

Maura

"Great stop along our route! Great gift shop! Lots of fun things to pick from. Employee was friendly and we all enjoyed collecting our passport stamps even though it’s not a national park.

Information is available for a small cost to tour the museum."

Jill House

"Love coming to Chimney rock. Amazing sight to see a must to see in western Nebraska. Great camping spot near by and trails are easy to walk around. Be mindful of rattle snakes as signs are posted."
