Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Baldwin Lake Ecological Reserve for its tranquil atmosphere, diverse natural beauty, and unique flora. Many highlight the value of guided hikes for learning about the local environment. Some note inconsistent restroom availability and the need for appropriate footwear due to muddy trails.
"To start, I've lived in big bear for years and had never been. David, our walk guide, was a complete delight. Very knowledgeable, could definitely tell he loves his job. Was very informative and attentive to all of our questions and was happy to share all his knowledge to inquiring minds"
Fabian Castro
"Baldwin Lake Ecological Preserve is a beautiful spot to see the many faces of California. There are beautiful trees and open meadows and fields to explore. The road like path was running with water from the snowmelt, so bring boots for muddy gravel if its wet. It was a dog friendly trail so long as you pick up dog waste and keep them on a leash! The hike was an easy to moderate meander through beautiful trees and rocky slopes with panoramic views! Totally worth it. There are restrooms at the trailhead but they were locked on Wednesday mid afternoon when I was there. Not sure if they always are or not. The trailhead has a dirt parking lot and easy road access."
Kevin Bolland
"We went on a guided hike and it was really an incredible experience learning about local plants! I highly recommend this hiking area for people with young kids. It's a very easy hike, mostly flat. You can see very rare plants and a very unique part of the mountain!"
