What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The White Pine Trail is highly recommended for its beautiful scenery and extensive paved sections, offering a fantastic experience for cyclists and walkers. While many parts are well-maintained, some older segments can be rough, requiring attention to tire choice and trail conditions. Despite minor drawbacks, the trail is celebrated as an iconic, traffic-free route through rural Michigan.
"Highly recommend! The bike trail was very well taken care of and was beautiful from Cadillac, MI to Leroy, MI. We rode our e-bikes and enjoyed every minute of it."

"90 miles of pure Michigan fun from Grand Rapids to Cadillac. It's almost paved the whole way now. Just a couple detours for paving work this summer. Next season should be a dream sailing on fresh asphalt the whole way. The section through Big Rapids is just a little rough... But so is Big Rapids. Large homeless presence there near the trail. Just like the rest of Michigan has become. Great trail, though."

"On. 8/21-22/2025 I gravel biked the entire trail, south to north and north to south (Grand Rapids, Cadillac, Grand Rapids). While the newly and recently paved portions are excellent, some portions (older/oldest) are bone rattling due to root upheavals, failed joint, pot holes, ignored or inadequate "repairs," eroded ramping on and off bridges, etc. One spot has a sign stating "rough trail" and that is a severe understatement. Also, on returning to Grand Rapids 10 of the last 15 miles are brutally hard on bodies and bikes. I hoe there is plan now being implemented to repair, refurbish, replace the old, broken, painful sections. On a different point, bring plenty of water. While some small town provide drinking water near the trail, some otherwise nice communities have not been able to do so. On a positive note, the trail is traffic free, iconic rural midwest American, and a concept primed to one day be excellent."
