However, many express disappointment with the memorial's upkeep, noting overgrown areas and missing elements, which they feel detracts from the respect due to the tragedy. Reddit+1

"A plaque was missing. Looks like it had been missing for quite a while. I think they could have done something a little nicer for the people who not only lost their lives but also survived. (Missing plaque isn't shown)"

Connie Blessitt

"Was Soooo Disappointing...
The park area around it is nicely kept but the Memorial Itself was Trashed and the Memento Case is No Longer. Also the Wood Carved Statue hasn't obviously been kept up in Yeeeeears and the Historic Info Signs are also in very need of a Update.
All in All I Don't Recommend because it was Depressing to see the Damage and Disrespect and I Truly Wonder Why the City would let This Memorial go to Crap the way it has..
Feels Very Disrespectful to Those Who Lost Their Lives and Homes That Day.
DO BETTER BILOXI THATS UNACCEPTABLE!"

Tina Manley

"It was sad to see it vandalized. It is still worth a visit to remember what happened during Hurricane Katrina and the people who lost their lives. History always has value."
