Ancient Bristlecone Pine Grove, Patriarch Grove, and Owens Observatory near Bishop , California. So grateful we got to see these testaments to time!, nearby is the observatory also where you can take a self guided tour The trees in this grove are between 3000 to 4000 years old (and even older) and was incredible, just thinking about how long they have been there in the harshest conditions and h...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently describe Patriarch Grove as an emotional, secluded, and humbling place. The ancient bristlecone pines evoke a deep sense of reverence, and the peaceful solitude is a major draw. While the drive can be challenging, the unique beauty and profound experience are widely praised.

"The Patriarch Grove is a very emotional, secluded place. The drive from The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest takes around 45 to 50 minutes and lies at 3500 metres."

Jean-Claude Weber

"My wife and I drove here from the Visitors Center on Oct 2 2024, in a 4x4 Jeep rental. The 24 mile round trip was very rough in places on the gravel road, and we were glad we left the Grove wth enough time to get back to asphalt, as the setting sun made it hard to see the road edge in parts. We were tempted to take the 15- mile Silver Canyon road back to Bishop, but opted for the 1- hour paved road instead, due to the fading light.

The Patriarch Grove was wonderful, with amazing and really ancient trees, awesome views, and all very peaceful. We were alone with the trees, the chipmunks, the nuthatches, and chickadees; it was a magical and memorable experience, being with creatures so old and so young."

Simon Chadwick

"Incredibly humbling being in the presence of these great trees. An eerie silence only broken occasionally by the sound of a passenger plane high overhead. The road leading in and out can be technical at times. Not sure I would take a standard two wheel drive sedan. All wheel drive is reassuring."
